Cambodia has announced three additional cases of mpox.

Phnom Penh, Feb 12 - Cambodia has reported three more cases of mpox, commonly known as monkeypox, bringing the total infections in the country to nine since last December, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.

The National Institute of Public Health's laboratory results on Friday revealed that three additional individuals tested positive for mpox, bringing the total confirmed cases in Cambodia to nine," the Ministry stated on Sunday.

The patients, residing in three different districts in the capital, Phnom Penh, are receiving proper treatment at a hospital, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

The Ministry emphasized the importance of increased vigilance, noting that the mpox virus is transmitted from person to person through all forms of sexual contact with an infected person and through direct contact with wounds, body fluids, saliva, and equipment contaminated with the virus.

The Ministry stated that mpox could be transmitted from a mother to her child through the umbilical cord during or after birth if the pregnant woman has the disease.

If someone has symptoms like a rash with blisters on the face, palms, feet, body, eyes, mouth, or genitals, along with fever, swollen lymph nodes, headache, muscle aches, low back pain, and fatigue, they should go to a health center or hospital for a consultation or a test for mpox," emphasized the Ministry.

Referring to a report from the World Health Organization, the Ministry revealed that as of January 25, there have been a total of 93,030 confirmed cases of mpox, including 176 deaths, reported from 117 countries and regions.
